Being a nurse is said to be one of the most rewarding and enjoyable jobs any person could ever have. Despite the fact that nurses are always confronted with so many challenges and stress from their jobs, more and more people are still looking at it as the perfect job. This should not come as a surprise in any way because of the great benefits nurses get to enjoy.

Aside from the fact that nurses play an important role in the recovery and betterment of the lives of so many ill patients, they receive good income and most of them work in favorable working conditions. But there are some difficulties nurses have to deal with also. So it is important that you know first what to expect from this job before actually trying to get a nursing degree.

Most nursing practitioners work in comfortable and well maintained healthcare facilities. For public health and home health nurses, they are required to travel to where their patients are, like in their homes, community centers, schools, and other areas needing their services. One of the toughest parts of being a nurse is having to spend a lot of time standing and walking. As you can imagine, patients in nursing care centers and hospitals need a round-the-clock care, which means nurses are expected to work nights, weekends, and even holidays.

Another thing to be aware of is the hazards of working in clinics, nursing care centers, and hospitals. Nurses working in these areas are prone to infectious diseases. In addition, there is always the possibility of a nurse suffering from back pains caused by moving patients, and even shocks due to electrical equipment. And so, it is crucial that a nurse abide by strict guidelines so that they can prevent having any form of illnesses.

On a positive note, nursing jobs are amongst the most flexible jobs out there. Mainly because of the shortage in nurse practitioners, employers are giving their nurse staff the freedom to choose their own work schedule. They can work either full time or part time. As a matter of fact, it is common for nurses these days to enroll in universities to pursue higher nursing education without having to quit their current jobs. This is because employers are supportive of their nurses’ schedules as long as they perform their jobs properly.

Travelling to another country or another place is another advantage of working as a nurse. There are traveling nurses who take on projects in various different places. There is also a growing need for nurses in so many other parts of the world, so nurses can always choose to stay where they are or grab the opportunity to live in a foreign country.
